With a full fledged nod to hard rock Hammond driven bands of the late 60's and 70's, Wicked Minds executes a tight and edgy, post-psychedelic groove; complete with crunch laden guitars & hard driving rhythmic punch; but it's that organ, with that Leslie speaker captured as if you were standing next to the cabinet, with the horns spinning out of control & the overdriven 12AX7's on the verge of a meltdown. The music leans on the 'song-oriented' scheme of things, with the occasional jam session interplay between the guitars and organ, where they crank out thundering tracks through and through, where cuts such as the 'Sabbathy' "Withflower" and the chaotic rock of "Drifting" keep the record's impulsive vibe in overdrive while darker numbers such as "Before the Morning Light" & the tripped out "Return to Uranus" invoke a haunting mood in the record. Live at Burg Herzberg Festival is an ecstatic live performance, where these guys keep the groove loose, but not to a fault; there are points where you almost forget that you are listening to a live album due to the fact that there is a lack of sloppiness during the performance; the finite spontaneity just comes natural for the band. This a release that fans of Argent, Rainbow, Black Bonzo, Deep Purple, & early-Uriah Heep dare not miss out on.
